We work with people across Australia who want to step out now and then or break the same daily routine. Social Participation does not entail large-scale interventions or altering the way a person lives. More about simple things, going out for a bit, meeting somebody, or having an easy opportunity to get out of the house.
When it comes to taking a short walk, getting near others, or spending some quiet time with some assistance, some enjoy it, while other people don’t. We go with what suits the person and keep things easy. At Unite Canberra Care, we don’t treat this like a formal program. It’s just about helping people feel part of everyday life again.
It’s just that it concerns the company of people or an activity away from the familiar environment. It might be within walking distance, in a neighborhood park, a café, or someplace else local.
It doesn’t need planning or anything big. There's a way in which everyone does things. Some people tend to go out a lot, others don't.
We're all individuals and people see things differently. Some wish to get out more and there are others who don't. There are no definite plans. From there on in, we shall plow through the "new normal. Well, if someone wants to take their time, it's cool.
Most of it stays around simple, everyday things:
Every day is different. Some days people want more, some days they want less. This is, after all, based on the "how" of things.
The thought of leaving home altogether may seem like a giant challenge for a lot of people at first. So we keep things steady. It might start with a short outing. Then slowly, it becomes easier to go out again.
Others want individual support when they're first starting out before venturing into making social advances. It has increasingly become usual for him. There’s no set pace here. It builds gradually without pushing anything.
